• International Youth Day:
    Youth building peace

  • Every year, International Youth Day is celebrated on August 12th . That means children get their own special day, just like mummy and daddy!

Each year, there is a different part of youth development to focus on and this year, the focus is on “Youth Building Peace.”

How can you build peace in your community or school? You can start by being more helpful to others and taking more care in what you do and say.

International Youth Day is dedicated to celebrating young people’s contributions to stopping fighting before it can begin or get worse, helping persons to change as well as making everyone feel welcomed, accepted and keeping the peace among everyone.

What does this mean for us? It means that as young people, we are celebrating our abilities to:

    a. Help each other to stop fighting and quarreling
    b. Not leave anyone out because they may be different
    c. Be respectful to everyone no matter how they may look or dress
    d. Always find a calm way to talk to one another and settle our issues

  • All of these are things that help to keep our world peaceful. What else can we do to help build peace in our country?

The United Nations are working together to create plans to help youth toward the best outcomes no matter what their starting point. That means that great and small nations work together to help young persons reach their goals in life, even if they are born in areas where that may not be easy for reasons such as poverty, lack of access to education, political conflict, or other causes.

Wouldn’t you like to be a part of that?

Reach out to us at Trini Kids Corner and tell us what International Youth Day means to you and how you’ll be celebrating!
